Tourin’ the Blogosphere

My web publicist, the fabulous Valerie Russo, emailed me with some great news.
Trespassers has been selected to go on a blogosphere tour at: http://firstwildcardtours.blogspot.com
Is this cool or what?  Bloggers are an inventive bunch, always figuring out ways to make the internet even more useful and fun than it was yesterday.  Here’s how the wildcard tour will work:
Right [...]

The Day Job.

Lately, I’ve started to feel like a fifties-era women’s college student with a new engagement ring (my book being the ring, in this case).  At least twice a week, I get this question:
“So, when are you quitting?”
Quitting what?  Why, my day job, of course!  That pesky means-to-an-end that every artist has to contend with, until that magical day [...]

And the tiaras just keep on comin’.

Rebecca @ Readerville has nominated my little ol’ blog for this sparkling award:

Thanks, Rebecca! Part of the award entails nominating seve blogs of my own. More on that to come.

Alex Awards!

Trespassers Will Be Baptized has been nominated for an Alex Award! Woo-hoo! The Alex Awards are presented annually by the American Library Association to, according to their website, “ten books written for adults that have special appeal to young adults, ages 12 through 18.”

Pretty neat, huh?  I found out this morning in an email from [...]

I Hate You, HGTV.

People ask me how it feels to have my childhood story open to criticism by the masses.  The answer is, not always great.  But, I did sign up for it.  I expected it.  And just like every other working person in the world, who has to deal with snarky comments from the boss and nausea-inducing [...]

Middle Schooled.

I spent last night with a middle school VBS class, giving the “what it’s like to be a writer” talk.  I went in feeling confident.  I left feeling O-L-D, and more than a little scared.
This has happened before, but never where discussion of books was concerned.  Good lit, even young adult lit, endures forever, right?  The themes [...]

I Think We Need Some Rules.

I like to walk.  Really.  Just for the sake of it, completely ignoring the whole your-carbon-footprint-is-bigger-than-my-carbon-footprint thing.  (Aside: Since when did people in flannel shirts and hemp underdrawers start cornering the snob market?  I thought you needed Brooks Brothers for that, at a mininum.)
Anyway, yes.  When I’m in my house, I’m constantly bombarded with the images of [...]

You know your a grammar snob when…

Ok, first off, let’s get something straight — I’m NOT.  A grammar snob, I mean.  I grew up in the land where “ain’t got no”s and “damned if I do”s flowed like moonshine.  The dialect colored a landscape that wasn’t deemed exciting enough to warrant mention in big city papers.  It was part of our [...]

Lizzie Hancock Meets Lizzie Borden

My father was, and is, a master storyteller.  (That skill is either a valuable or dangerous asset to a minister; you decide which.)  Ghost stories are his specialty.
Some might think that’s an odd hobby for a man of the pulpit, but it never occurred to me to question it.  The man spent most of his working hours talking about the afterlife.  [...]
