Welcome Book Club Cookbook Fans!

Posted on August 1, 2008

Judy Gelman and Vicki Krupp are the bee’s knees.  These two fabulous ladies have concocted a way to prevent book club bloodshed, and fill tummies with yumminess at same time.

Book Club Bloodshed, you say?  Oh, you clubbers in the audience (ladies especially) know what I’m talking about.  The sudden hush over the room, the tension in the air when it comes time to discuss “next month’s selection.”  Suddenly, a brave voice pops up:

“Let’s read Life of Pi!”

“Oh yes, agreed.  I read Life of Pi.  I LOVED Life of Pi.  Every single person in this room should HAVE to read Life of Pi.”

“But I read it already.  I didn’t really care for it.”

CHORUS: “WHHHHAAAAAA?!?!?!”

“I’d like to try The Secret Life of Bees.”

“Well, you would, you worthless, book-dumb skank.”

“Excuse me?”

“I said ’I think Pillars of the Earth deserves its rank.’  On the Times list.”

“Oh.  Well, it was long, but just not challenging enough for me.”

“Oh really?  Well YOUR HUSBAND PLOWED UNDER HIS CORN AND BUILT A BASEBALL FIELD!”

There you go.  Bloodshed.

I hope yours isn’t this severe, but even if your book club meetings are the epitome of civil discussion and flowing insight, you’ll appreciate The Book Club Cookbook.  This handy website offers a compendium of suggestions for club-friendly reads, along with links to readers guides, and even recipes provided by the authors and tailored to each book!  If you’d like to get the author on the phone during you meeting, they can do that, too.

Check them out at www.bookclubcookbook.com.  Trespassers is a selection of the month!

And for the record, I’m always thrilled to speak to book clubs, in person, on the phone, or in cyber space.  See the contact information page for more info!
