Really???

Posted on January 21, 2009

It’s been a loooong post-holiday season and I have much to blog about.  But while I write, please content yourself to laugh/cry/gawk in amazement at this.  Someone pointed it out to me and I was convinced it had to be a joke.  It’s not.

Fellow church-goers: If we don’t want to become caricatures of ourselves, we need to stop creating “moral versions” of things that weren’t immoral in the first place.

It reminds me of a movement in my hometown, my senior year in high school, where local church youth groups started hosting “Christian Proms.” I’m not talking about those freakish new affairs called Purity Balls; those were born this decade. No, I mean that certain groups of someones decided that good God-loving children needed an alternative to the traditional high school prom. Christian proms played all-Christian music in an all-Christian local, to a Christians-only crown.

And I’m sure all the lights were on.

OMG, that is appalling! I didn’t think it was possible to make a movie any cleaner or cheesier than the original HSMs, but it looks like someone’s done it. Wow. Regarding Christian proms: did they also have a lady walking around with a ruler to make sure kids left “enough room for the Holy Spirit” between them?
